File Hosting

The Ermarian Network offers two kinds of hosting - public and exclusive.

Public File Hosting

An FTP account has been created for this server. Uploaded files will be available on the web at the URL http://stuff.ermarian.net. Because of some bad experiences, access to this account is no longer open but only given out on an individual basis by me. You can ask me by email to arancaytar.ilyaran@gmail.com. If I know you, you'll probably get it.

Once you have the username and password, you can use an FTP client like FileZilla to connect to the server stuff.ermarian.net. The Ermarian Network also offers a very smooth and convenient web uploader, which can handle files up to 2 MB in size.

The public web directory is named "public". Please upload your files in a new, individual directory named after you. Do not upload to the root directory or (even worse) to the directory of another user. Mis-filed files will be deleted immediately on discovery. Which brings us to the next bit:

Files stored at stuff.ermarian.net are not persistent. All users who can upload files can also delete any files, including yours. I ask you not to mess with anyone's files, but I can't enforce that. Also, if your files take up much space and aren't used in a long time, I may delete them during routine clean-up.

All in all, this is for quickly uploading pictures or downloadable files for posting at a forum. If you wish to permanently host creative works, check out OurMedia. If you need to build a larger website and want exclusive access (and PHP), read on.

Exclusive Website Hosting

Some people (see my list of sites) are getting webspace for free, either as a personal favor or as thanks for Great Services Rendered unto The Ermarian Network. This hosting plan comes with a few hundred megs of webspace (pretty much more than you'll ever get without horrendous service, paying or ads or all of the above), PHP (which you definitely won't get free elsewhere) and, optionally, a MySQL database all your own. All other arrangements are made on an individual basis.

Needless to say, no advertisement of any kind will be placed on your site. Also, I am fairly lax with content restriction. Which basically means break no laws of the host jurisdiction (California, US), preferably no laws of my jurisdiction (Germany), and don't host pornographic content.
